A wart is a small growth that is typically found on one's hands and is most commonly caused by a virus known as the Human papilloma virus (HPV). Warts do not cause damage to the skin and they do not usually cause pain or have any other symptoms other than the fact that they are often visually unattractive and are often a cause of embarrassment.

If a wart is caught on an object and is torn open, right down to the skin on which it is attached, then bleeding and pain may result. Removal of warts is done by using a laser to remove them using acid or liquid nitrogen to burn them of or cutting them out. The best method is usually the one that causes the least scarring. It is unfortunately quite common for warts to re- grow after their removal. Repetitive removal of a wart on the same area may result in scarring. Please consult your healthcare practitioner if the condition has not resolved within 12 weeks.
