The skin is the largest organ of the body. It includes the skin itself, and various accessory organs such as the hair, nails, sweat glands and sebaceous glands. These parts protect the underlying tissues, help regulate body temperature, house a variety of sensory receptors, and synthesize certain products. No other organ is so exposed to damage or disease from the outside, such as sunlight, injury, environmental pollutants and infectious agents like bacteria and viruses. The condition of your skin is also sensitive to a number of other factors including your age, genes, hygiene, circulation, digestion, state of nutrition and psychological wellbeing, and therefore often reflects disturbances in other systems of the body.
