Weight control is a common concern in most people, especially women, today. This may lead to an obsession over ones weight which may cause eating disorders, depression, self-loathing and a lack of self confidence. Many women would like to be able to lose weight quickly and immediately and these leads to the use of thinning tablets, starvation diets, eating disorders and binging. Often ones lifestyle affects one's weight and correcting the problem areas in one's lifestyle may be difficult. Techniques used to lose weight that restrict the amount of food you eat do not always work and may in fact do more harm than good. They may result in malnutrition as you may not be taking in the correct amount of nutrients and vitamins. The type of food you eat plays a vital role in weight loss.
Healthy, wholesome diets consisting of fresh fruit and vegetable and plenty of water are much better than diets which restrict the amount of food you eat. Eating regular amount throughout the day, rather than large meals at night, help speed up your metabolism and gives your body a chance to digest what is just eaten. It is also advisable to eat dinner before seven o'clock at night as after seven you will most likely burn fewer calories due to less activity that during the day. Some people may overeat to compensate for emotional or mental upsets or depression. If there is an underlying emotional or mental cause for over eating then it is advisable that this cause be treated. |
