An infection in your mouth may result from bacteria, form an overgrowth of fungi (see thrush) or the presence of a virus. Signs of a mouth infection are a change in colour of the lining of your mouth such as redness or white areas, itching, swelling, pain and sensitivity. Strengthening your immune system and rinsing your mouth with an anti-septic mouth wash or salt water helps speed up the healing. Please consult your healthcare practitioner if your mouth infection has not healed within a week.
