Restlessness describes a state in which one does not feel able to rest and cannot remain still. A restless person feels the need to keep moving or working and is commonly talkative. Their thoughts are often rapid and they may jump from one topic to another during conversation.
Restlessness is a common symptom of stress, anxiety, depression and fear. An overactive thyroid may also cause restlessness. Induced states of restlessness may occur as a result of too much caffeine, certain medications and illegal drugs. Insomnia and irritability may accompany symptoms of restlessness and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or other behavioural disorders may exhibit restless behaviour. |
