Cellulite is a condition where the skin becomes dimpled. It is found in almost all women - there appears to be a connection between oestrogen, and cellulite. Agnus castus may be of some benefit due its progesterone like influence and its role as a hormone balancer. Other hormones thought to contribute include insulin, thyroid hormones, noradrenalin and adrenaline. The causes of cellulite are not understood however links to poor circulation and metabolism have been made.Genetics also plays a role. Life style changes may be made in order to reduce the amount of one's cellulite - cutting down on caffeine, alcohol, salt and fats and increasing the amount of fibre and water intake. Smoking may also worsen cellulite. Regular exercise and circular rubbing movements over the affected areas increase circulation and may reduce the appearance of cellulite. A recommendeed aromatherapy mix is - sweet almond oil, Juniper berry, fennel oil and lemon oil. Massage daily. Cellulite commonly occurs on the thighs, buttocks and abdomen, however it may also be found on arms and calves. It is also advisable to control ones stress levels as certain hormones released while stressed may worsen the appearance of cellulite. Gotu Kola tincture may be useful in improving circulation of the lower limbs and a diuretic (such nettle leaf tincture) may assist by helping to remove excess fluid.
